Nursery Decor- A Practical Guide
Having a baby is the most precious thing any parent can ask for. The baby brings along a dozen ideas to the parents mind, one of them being – doing up the nursery décor, provided you have a room to dedicate for them. Most parents splurge for the baby and the nursery ends up looking more like a warehouse rather than – a beautiful nursery. One should also try to design the nursery in a way that it lasts longer, as the child grows and not just for a year or two. Some points that can be considered while doing the nursery decor in a practical way are as follows:
Fit only as much is required
As discussed above, parents tend to over shop and store things leading to what leaves them with little space for the things that they require immediately for a newborn baby. First make space for the most important things that have to be there, for eg- cot, chest of drawers, changing table. You can eventually keep adding and discarding things as the child grows, leading to less clutter and only age-appropriate objects.
Make a mood board
Plan this a little earlier in your pregnancy as you would want to choose carefully and wisely and take your time for this. It decides the colour scheme, wallpaper, buntings, nursing chair fabric, and other things that you must have seen in the shops or online. Put them all together on a slide to see how the room is going to look like. You can keep changing it till you’re satisfied with the overall look of the nursery décor.
Keep it gender-neutral
Go with gender-neutral colours for nursery decor such as grey, yellow, powder green, etc rather than the typical blue and pink. To keep the ambiance of the nursery decor pleasant and soft, strictly avoid dark and striking colors. As the child grows, one can paint the furniture as per the child’s taste.
Use soft lighting
Baby’s eyes are very sensitive to light in the early months. You can go with cove lighting or indirect lighting while doing the nursery decor. If you already have lights installed, do use a dimmer to soften or brighten the light as per your needs.
