Easy Diwali Decor tips for your home – Part 1

Diwali is just around the corner and there’s something in the air that envelopes you in a festive mood. The slightly cool days, card parties, lit up markets and the most awaited part– doing the diwali decor for your home! As children, my sisters and me made sure that we make a rangoli no matter how tired we were, and decorate the house with as many candles and diyas as possible. And yes, the cleanliness drive for diwali is still as crazy! The parents made sure that not only the exterior of the house was decorated; the interiors should be well decorated too.

There are small ways of setting up things that make a huge impact on the overall diwali decor. Here are some of the tips you can incorporate while doing diwali decor for your house:

Play with levels

The diwali decor for your side table or the crockery unit , should be done in such a way that the levels are clearly visible. This adds to the drama as compared to simply placing it on the surface , making it look flat. Even the most ordinary things look great if you add levels to it. Place a plant , light a small votive candle or any lantern, and stack the statue ( Ganeshji or Lakshmiji) on a pile of neat looking books. It’s even better if you have books of the same thickness.

Add DIY centerpieces

Centerpieces instantly liven up your living room, and if they are unique then they definitely catch the eye as soon as one walks into the room. You can take any clear glass jars available in your house. Add a handful of small pebbles and branches from a plant or small dry twigs. Place them artistically and add water, and a tea light. If you have jars of different height, that’ll work perfectly to arrange flowers in combination with tea lights. One can combine the set of 2-3 jars collectively in a fancy tray and add more candles and succulents to fill up the space in the tray for the diwali decor. Place them on the coffee table, side table or on the entrance console!

Rangoli

We Indians are very talented when it comes to making a rangoli at home. There’s so much time, effort and love we put into it and come up with beautiful looking rangoli’s to add to our diwali decor. You could either make one with different flowers or with colourful rice powders that are easily available in the market.

Make a statement entrance

The entrance should look as impressive as the interiors of your house. You can either hang strings of marigold with clear glass beads or mix a batch of flower heads and hang them with spacing in between. Another way to get creative is – with Banana Leaves! You can place them in clear glass vases on either sides of the main door or use it as a backdrop for placing ganeshji and assorted diyas & candles. Either ways, it works fantastically for the diwali decor!
